How we do this
LA Mattress Finder is a consumer watchdog for the mattress industry. We audit mattresses, brands, stores, and the review industry itself, and we publish what we find in plain language, backed by data, with our sources shown.
Why we exist
Most major mattress review sites earn a commission every time a reader buys through their links. That builds an incentive to rank the brands that pay best and avoid saying anything that kills a sale. We take zero money from any brand or store — no affiliate commissions, no sponsorships, no pay-for-placement. This is the one promise a commission-funded site cannot copy, because copying it would end their income.
Our method
- Data over opinion. Wherever a claim can be grounded in a measurable fact — a spec, a warranty term, an aggregate of real owner reports — we ground it there and show the number.
- We show our work.Every data claim carries its source and a “verified as of” date. If you want to check us, you can.
- We verify before publishing. Data is machine-cross-checked by independent extraction methods, and brand-critical claims (warranty terms, fiberglass status, durability claims) are additionally reviewed by a human against the primary source before they appear. We do not trust brand self-labeling.
- We surface weaknesses loudly. We publish low assessments and we tell you when not to buy.
- We separate feel from fit. A mattress fits some bodies and not others; we describe who a mattress is for and who it is not for.
- We’ll tell you to go try it in person.When the honest answer is “go lie on it in an LA showroom first,” we say that — it earns us nothing, and it’s the correct advice.
- We correct ourselves in public. When we get something wrong, we fix it visibly and note the correction.
What we are not
We are not a testing lab, and we don’t claim a short hands-on test predicts long-term durability. We are not one person’s opinion dressed up as objectivity. And we do not accuse without evidence: we report documented facts and let readers draw conclusions.
No single magic number
We don’t publish a composite “score” per mattress. A single number claiming objectivity is exactly the mechanism that destroyed trust in the incumbents. We publish the component data — warranty terms, durability predictors, aggregated owner reporting with its sample size — and let the numbers speak.
Our promise to you

- We will always show you our sources and when we checked them.
- We will tell you when something is bad, and when not to buy at all.
- We will tell you where to try a mattress in person here in LA.
- We will label anything promotional as promotional, plainly.
- We will correct our mistakes in the open.
Store location, hours, and rating data comes from Google’s official Places API and refreshes on a schedule. Warranty terms are transcribed from each manufacturer’s published warranty document, cited and dated.
