Prorated warranty
Warranty coverage where, after an initial period, you pay a growing share of the replacement cost (often calculated from MSRP × years owned ÷ warranty length). A '10-year warranty, prorated after year 5' is really 5 years of full coverage plus 5 years of discounts. 'Lifetime' warranties are routinely prorated into near-worthlessness — always find the non-prorated years.
